In 2006 nearly every animal impounded in the town of Barrington, Rhode Island was euthanized. Nearly 100% of dogs and more than 90% of cats were killed - many after just the minimum 5 day holding period. This equates to a total of 75 animals! Barrington's euthanasia statistics are higher than any other city or town in Rhode Island. There is no doubt that many of these animals would have made great pets for someone if just given the chance! In fact there is a high probability that some may even have been owned animals that were never reunited with their loved ones. We, at the Barrington Partnership for Animal Welfare believe that if the residents of Barrington were better informed about how their tax dollars are being used they would insist on a more humane approach. We hope that we are right about this and that you will join us in advocating for change!
