In 2006 nearly every animal impounded in the town of Barrington, Rhode Island was euthanized. Nearly 100% of dogs and more than 90% of cats were killed - many after just the minimum 5 day holding period. This equates to a total of 75 animals! Barrington's euthanasia statistics are higher than any other city or town in Rhode Island. There is no doubt that many of these animals would have made great pets for someone if just given the chance! In fact there is a high probability that some may even have been owned animals that were never reunited with their loved ones.  We, at the Barrington Partnership for Animal Welfare believe that if the residents of Barrington were better informed about how their tax dollars are being used they would insist on a more humane approach. We hope that we are right about this and that you will join us in advocating for change!

Who will speak for the animals,
For those who have no choice?
Who will keep them safe from harm
Who will be their voice?

What We Do

 The Barrington Partnership for Animal Welfare is an all volunteer, 501c3 organization that was created to improve the lives of companion animals in the town of Barrington, RI. To accomplish this, the organization focuses its efforts on:

  • Advocating for animal control policies and practices that show ingrity and accountability and which reflect the community's values;
  • Reducing Barrington's historically high euthanasia rate with a goal of eventually implementing systems that result in owned animals being reunited with owners and stray animals being rehabilitated and rehomed;
  • Disseminating information to the public on topics related to animal well-being;
  • Serving as a resource to residents of Barrington, linking them to needed help and resources with animal related concerns; and
  • Collaborating with neighboring communities to advocate for and support state-wide and regional policies that improve the lives of animals and promote the human:animal bond.
